Mizpah Hotel, built in 1907 and a member of Historic Hotels of America® since 2015 was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Historic Hotels of America is the official program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation® for recognizing and celebrating the finest historic hotels across America. Opened in 1908 at a then steep cost of over $200,000, the Mizpah Hotel was heralded as "the finest stone hotel on the desert" by local newspapers. Located in the old mining town of Tonopah, halfway between Las Vegas and Reno, this region experienced a silver and gold boom in the early 1900s, amplifying the need for a place where hardworking miners could rest. The Mizpah Hotel spared no expense, acquiring electric lights, steam heat, crafted celling fans, and a bar stocked with the best whiskey. In 2011, current owners Fred and Nancy Cline carefully preserved and restored its 1907 Victorian style and history, while updating the property to add modern comfort and amenities.
