Lava Point Campground is open as weather allows, typically from May through September. Situated at 7890 feet above sea level, the campground can be reached via the Kolob Terrace Road, 25 miles (45 minutes) north of the Virgin. It takes approximately 80 minutes to drive to the campground from the South Entrance of Zion Canyon. Six (6) primitive campsites are available for reservation. The campground has pit toilets and trash cans, but no running water. Vehicles longer than 19 feet are not permitted.
To reach Lava Point Campground, start by driving north from the intersection of UT-9 and Kolob Terrace Road. Drive on Kolob Terrace Road for roughly 20 miles. Then, take a right onto Lava Point Road. Follow Lava Point Road for 1.4 miles, then turn left at the sign for Lava Point Campground. The campground can be found next to the sign. A map can be obtained from the Zion Canyon Visitor Center during regular hours.
Zion is known for a wide range of weather conditions. Temperatures vary with changes in elevation and day/night temperatures may differ by over 30°F. This means it is usually much cooler at Lava Point than in other parts of Zion National Park.
