The Himes Peak Trail climbs steeply from the road, crossing a small creek into a large meadow below Shepherd's Rim. It climbs gradually for 2 miles, crossing snow slide paths to a bench below Himes Peak. The trail then switchbacks for 1 mile to a large wildflower meadow. It follows the meadow for 1 more mile to Florence Lake (no fish). From Florence Lake, it is approximately .5 mile to Big Fish Trail #1819 .
