This interpretive site along the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail was developed cooperatively with the Forest Service. It is primarily a staging area for Lewis & Clark enthusiasts planning to travel across Lemhi Pass with vehicles too long to get over that steep and windy mountain pass. Recreational trailers and motor homes can be left here while travelers venture over the pass in a more suitable vehicle. At the the Shoshone Ridge site, visitors have an opportunity to enjoy a scenic overview of the valley and learn something about the natural and cultural history of the area Lewis & Clark passed through over 200 years ago.
